He d. on 23 March 1764, aged 71 years,1 having m. firstly, at Edinburgh, on 27 September 1719, to Grizel, daughter of Sir Lawrence Mercer of Aldie,2 (she d. at Ballechin, on 22 August 17583), by whom he was father of,
1. Robert Stewart 8th of Ballechin,
2. George Stewart, dsp in 1770.
3. James Stewart, was apprenticed to james Pringle W.S., and was admitted a
member of the Society of Writers to the Signet on 8 July 1763. He d.
unmarried, on 16 September 1779.
4. Clementina Stewart, m. at Ballechin, on 10 August 1749, to Sir John Stewart,
16th of Grantully, (he d. on 6 October 1797), and d. at Murthly, on 10 February
1789, leaving issue.
5. Jean Stewart, m. at Dull, on 30 May 1760, to Henry Stewart, 10th of Fincastle,4
(he was b. in 1723), and d. in December 1766.5 They had issue.
He m. secondly, to Isabel Menzies. There were no children.
He was also father of a illegitimate son:
6. John Stewart, was a illegitimate son by Margaret Wallace in Sheirglass. He was bap. at Blair Atholl, on 20 October 1718.
