He married by 17 May 1494, to Marion, daughter of Sir Adam Mure of Caldwell. He died after 3 January 1513-14.
He was father of,
1. James Stewart of Ardgowan.
2. James Stewart, was a second son by that same forename.
He was also father of a natural son;
3. Robert Stewart, is styled “carnal son” to John Stewart of Ardgowan when witness to Instruments taken by George Stewart of Barscube on 16 March 1509/10.
