JAMES Stewart
of Doune
SIR JAMES STEWART OF DOUNE. He m. Margaret, daughter of Archibald Campbell, 4th Earl of Argyll,
In 1581 he was created LORD DOUNE (S.), and died 1590.
He had two sons JAMES, "the_bonnie_Earl_of_Moray" , and HENRY, Lord Saint Colme (S.) .
He m. Jean, daughter of John Stewart, 5th Earl of Atholl,2 (c/m in December of 1603. She survived him and
m. secondly, to Nicol Bellenden of Standenflat; and d. on 19 July 1623), and d. on 12 July 1612, having had issue :
2a} James Stewart, 2nd Lord St-Colme, succeeded his father. He served as a Colonel in the army of Gustavus Adolphus, and dsp following which his estate reverted to the Earls of Moray as heirs male.
3. Alexander Stewart, had a charter for the lands of Easter and Wester Buchlyvie from James, Commendator of Inchcolm, on 4 August 15594 and granted a renunciation of the lands of Leuchat’s Beath to James Spittall of Leuchat on 23 May 1599, in which he is styled third son of the deceased James Stewart of
Doune.
4. Archibald Stewart, was a substitute heir to his brother Henry in the lands of Mochaster on 24 November 1579.
5. John Stewart, who murdered John Gibb in 1608 and for which he was sentenced to be beheaded in December of 1609.
6. Mary Stewart, m. Sir John Wemyss of that Ilk, (c/m in August of 1581. He was widow of Margaret, daughter of William Douglas, 6th Earl of Morton, whom he had m. in 1574), and had issue.
