He m. Janet, only daughter and heiress of Sir Alexander Menzies of Fortingall, second son of Sir Robert Menzies of Weem, with whom he acquired these lands and is styled brother to Alexander Stewart, Earl of Mar, in a charter dated 24 December 1409. They were the parents of -
1. Neil Stewart of Fortingall.
2. John Gorm Stewart, was one of the Atholl men who captured the assassins of King James I. in 1437. He was killed in conflict with Sir William Ruthven fought at the South Inch of Perth on 24 June of either 1443 or 1453.
