WALTER Stewart
Third High Steward
WALTER STEWART, the younger son, succeeded as THIRD HIGH STEWART, and adopted the name of his office as his surname. had a charter for the office of High Justiciar of Scotland under the Great Seal of King Alexander II. on 24 August, 1230,
He died in 1241. He probably married Beatrix, daughter of Gilchrist, 3rd Earl of Angus, but there is no evidence to prove that.
Walter left three sons
(a) Alexander, his successor ALEXANDER, Fourth High Steward .
(b) John, killed at Damietta 1249.
(c) Walter, Earl of Menteth WALTER, 1st Earl of Menteth (S.).
(d) Sir Robert Stewart of Tarbolton and Crookston, may have been a son of Walter, High Steward.
(e). Beatrix Stewart, is said to have m. Maldwin, 3rd Earl of Lennox, and had issue.
(f). Euphemia Stewart, m. Patrick, 6th Earl of Dunbar, (he d. at Damietta, in Egypt,
while on Crusade with Louis, IX. of France, in 1248), and had issue.
(g). Margaret Stewart, m. Neil, 2nd Earl of Carrick (he d. in 1256), and had issue.
