JAMES Stewart
Earl of Moray

JAMES STEWART, son of JAMES IV, King of Scotland and Janet, daughter of John, Lord Kennedy, born about 1499.
He had a daughter Mary Stewart, m. John Stewart, Master of Buchan.
Created EARL OF MORAY, Lord Abernethy and Strathearn (S.) in 1501.
He died in 1544. The earldom reverted to crown. The earldom, having reverted to the crown, was on 13 Feb. 1549 conferred on George Gordon, fourth earl of Huntly.
Arms: of Earl of Moray on Seal, 1520.-1 and 4. Three cushions within a double tressure flory-counter-flory (Moray). 2 and 3. Scotland, debruised by a ribbon sinister (Laing).
